Up to 30 Cars Slide Off Turnpike Road in New Ipswich Due to Icy Conditions, Police Say

NEW IPSWICH, N.H. — Police are reporting that the roads are icy and slick in some parts of New Hampshire Wednesday night, including New Ipswich. New Hampshire Department of Transportation said it saw road issues scattered around the state where snow squalls passed through.

Police said up to 30 cars went off Turnpike Road near Dark Lane around 7 p.m. At least one officer was there to help direct traffic and make sure the area was safe. The area was shut down, and DOT crews brought in to treat the roads. DOT spokesperson Richard Arcand said they are out applying salt.

He said just enough snow fell to make roads very slippery.

“It’s hard to say it’s statewide because it’s not,” Arcand said. “It’s all over New Hampshire in patches.”

Pelham police also reported slick road conditions Wednesday night and multiple cars were reported sliding off Sherburne Road. Arcand said crews have to be called out when reports come in, so it takes some time for them to respond to the snow on the roads.

Crews said take it slow on the roads if snow squalls move through your area. The scattered snow showers are expected to clear later Wednesday night.
