Smash and Grab: Suspects Steal Rolex Watches From Concord Mills Jewelry Store

CONCORD, N.C. — A group of people stole more than $34,000 in jewelry from the KAY Jewelers at Concord Mills mall, police said.

It happened Wednesday evening around 6:30 p.m. Several people who were at the mall at the time reached out to Channel 9 after the incident.

Investigators said the robbery was a smash-and-grab. They said the four suspects went inside the mall through a service corridor across from KAY, which is located at the end of the food court.

The suspects were wearing masks and hoodies, police said, and used a hammer to smash a jewelry case. From it, they stole stole two Rolex Datejust watches worth $34,050, authorities said.

They left the scene before officers arrived, but a witness was able to describe them to officers and share the direction they were headed.

Surveillance video shows the suspects getting into a red Toyota RAV4 that was parked near the corridor they entered the mall through, police said. The SUV has a Georgia license plate that’s believed to be fictitious with tag number CVV8331.

The suspects then left the mall, driving on Carolina Lily Lane and making a left onto Derita Road towards Charlotte, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Concord Police Department at 704-920-5000, or the Cabarrus Area Crime Stoppers at 704-93-CRIME to remain anonymous.

Last month, a group robbed a Huntersville Fink’s Jewelers in a smash-and-grab. Police said on July 11, thieves with guns and sledgehammers robbed the Birkdale Village store wearing hooded sweatshirts and full-face masks.

The FBI later confirmed it was helping the Huntersville Police Department with its investigation.

Channel is asking investigators if the cases are connected.
