JEFFERSON, N.H. — After decades of fun at Santa’s Village, the popular Rudy’s Rapid Transit roller coaster will close at the end of this summer.
For 35 years, people have taken flight on “Rudy’s Rapid Transit Coaster” in Jefferson, N.H. But the coaster will be removed from service this fall, the amusement park announced this month.
The steel roller coaster with a top speed of 22 miles per hour led by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer has been at the park since 1988. Before that, it was at Benson’s Animal Park (New England Playworld) between 1981 and 1987, when it was called the Firefly Coaster.
“It’s a family favorite and we are sad to see it go,” Santa’s Village said. “A ride retirement can give us a chance to improve.”
With Rudy heading toward retirement, the park hinted that a new ride may be in store.
“We’ll share news about improvements for future seasons soon,” the park said
