Pedestrian Killed on Concord Highway

CONCORD — A woman walking on Highway 242 died after she was struck by a car Thursday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

Her name was not immediately released, pending confirmation of her identity and notification of relatives.

The CHP said the collision happened about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the southbound lanes of Highway 242 south of Clayton Road.

The CHP said a gray Lexus IS-250 traveling south hit the woman. She was pronounced dead on the highway.

CHP investigators were trying to determine why the woman was on the roadway.

The Lexus driver was not injured but a passenger suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

A SigAlert that closed two lanes while the CHP investigated was issued at 12:22 a.m. Friday. All lanes were reopened within a half-hour.
