NH Man Arrested After Being Accused Of Threatening To Kill Senator

CONCORD, NH — A man from New Hampshire was arrested on Friday, accused of threatening to kill a sitting U.S. Senator.

Brian Landry, 66, of Franklin, was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Concord on a single count of threatening to assault, kidnap, or murder a United States official in connection with the official’s performance of official duties. U.S. Attorney Jane Young said Friday he was accused of calling into the district office of an unnamed senator and leaving a threatening voicemail on May 17.

“Hey stupid,” the FBI accused Landry of saying in the voicemail, “I’m a veteran sniper. And unless you change your ways, I got my scope pointed in your direction, and I’m coming to get you. You’re a dead man walking, you piece of f—— sh–.”

Investigators traced the call back to a number “associated with Landry,” Young said. When asked about the call, he “admitted” to calling the senator’s office “but did not initially recall exactly what he said in the voicemail.”

According to an investigator, Landry was angered after watching the news and seeing the senator was blocking military promotions.

Landry faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release after, and a $250,000 fine.

Neither the FBI nor Young said who the senator receiving the call was. However, a search of headlines from May connected to promotions in the Defense Department leads to stories involving U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a Republican from Alabama. The senator, a former coach who took office in 2021, is blocking promotions due to a change in the Pentagon’s abortion policy. Hundreds of promotions have been held up since March, reports online stated.

The policy change, issued when a new administration came to power, provides paid time off and travel expenses for service members and their dependents who would like an abortion.

Tuberville’s press office did not return an email seeking comment and no one picked up at any of the senator’s six offices on Friday.

Along with the FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police, New Hampshire State Police, and officers from the Manchester and Franklin police departments assisted with the case.
