Hazy, Smoky Skies in New Hampshire Caused by Wildfires in Western Canada

MANCHESTER, N.H. — If Granite Staters notice a haze in the sky on Tuesday, something happening thousands of miles away is likely causing it.

A state of emergency was declared in Alberta, Canada, on Saturday as more than 100 wildfires burn in that province. Tens of thousands of people were forced to evacuate.

Government officials said it could take months before all the fires are under control.

Storm Watch 9 meteorologist Matt Hoenig said the winds in the upper levels of the atmosphere are transporting the smoke over the state.

Air quality is not expected to be impacted, but the smoky sky could lead to a vibrant sunset Monday night and more hazy skies Tuesday.
