Concord Theatricals has acquired the exclusive global rights to James Ijames’ comedy “Fat Ham.” The English-language licensing rights will be available on Concord’s Samuel French imprint.
Directed by Saheem Ali, “Fat Ham” opened on Broadway at the American Airlines Theatre on April 12 for a limited engagement through June 25.“Fat Ham” received its world premiere at the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia, where it was commissioned. The play had its New York premiere in 2022 at the Public Theater, co-produced with the National Black Theatre, and won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
“I’m really thrilled to be joining the amazing roster at Concord,” Ijames said in a statement. “Samuel French was my introduction to so many plays and their publications [have] been a major part of my development, first as a performer and now as a playwright. Concord licenses some of my favorite contemporaries and legends. I’m truly honored!”
